Suns of Darkness MC

History

“Follow the Spirit” was the motto of a group of young brothers who rode, hung out, partied, and philosophized together in the late 60s and the early 70s. Their meeting place was Denver’s City Park and the mind set was “Brotherhood”.  Brothers Alvin Maxie, James Young, James Vaden, and Bill Phillips were the founding fathers of the Suns of Darkness MC.  A close affiliation with the Brothers Fast MC led to official by-laws and the establishment of the club in 1971.  The first patch contained a Black Fist to represent Black Brotherhood, Empowerment and nine interlinked chains to represent the original nine members.

The Original Nine:

  • Maxie – Vampyr   (President 1973 – 2006)
  • James Vaden – Pretty Eyes
  • Mr. B
  • C-C
  • Bill Phillips (first President until 1973)
  • Tramp
  • Samuel Holmes
  • Budah
  • Purple Gang

The Suns' members originally rode Hondas, BSA’s, Triumphs and Harleys.  Over the years, this transitioned to primarily Harley-Davidsons and now has transitioned back again to many makes of bikes…As long as it is BIG and FAST.

The Suns maintained a clubhouse for decades on Welton Street in the historic Five-Points section of Denver.  In 2004, the clubhouse moved to its present location on Williams Street in the Curtis Park Neighborhood of Denver.

It has not always been about the ride or the party.  The Suns have sponsored an Annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids for over 20 years.  The club has also participated in other charity events sponsored by the Colorado Confederation of Clubs.  It is not uncommon to see a Suns Member participate in the Toys for Tots run or be seen at other Colorado events.
